I recently decided I needed a spiritual reset. It was the best thing I could have done and you can do it too. The benefits of taking some intentional time for my spirit have surprised me. The best way how to describe how I feel is sharp. I am operating with clarity, wisdom and discernment. My awareness of people and my compassion for them has increased. I am managing stress better, solving problems and feel equipped to deal with significant challenges. My soul feels healthy and light. Let me tell you what I did…
For the last two months I have immersed myself in the Bible. I picked a time when I limited my travel, there were no sports to distract me and I was able to make room for more bible reading. I said “no” to more than I said “yes” to, and I took every opportunity to read or listen that I could. I took the first 30 days and read through the whole bible. For the next 30 days I read all of the book of proverbs daily. It required some prioritization and some discipline but it has been so incredibly good for me.
The Power of the Bible
The Bible is a powerful tool that God has given to us to succeed in life. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that it is more than just a book but that it is living and active. It is the Word of God and it has creative and corrective power. Bringing the Bible into your business will produce good results. This verse shows how the Bible can operate like a teacher or coach for issues of life:
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."
There is an inherent power to God’s word, so much so that it was the method God used to create the world. “God said…” is the precursor to great miracles.
“so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.“
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an employee or a business strategy that always accomplished what they set out to do? God’s word is a powerful agent of change that can be relied upon. It has the power to change us and the environment around us. We can affect the culture we operate in (for the better) with the word of God.
How Can We Bring God’s Word into the Workplace?
One of the greatest most effective ways for you to bring scripture into the workplace is through you. You are an ambassador for Christ in your workplace, that means you carry the culture of His Kingdom inside of you. This culture affects your speech, your actions and even your motives. Your presence in the workplace is influenced by God’s word in action through your life.
How Can I Be More Effective?
In order for God’s Word to come out of you, it must first be in you. Create a pattern or habit that prioritizes reading the Bible. Get a plan, YouVersion has an app or website where you can sign up for a bible plan for free. It will even read the Bible to you!
These are the plans I used: 30 Day shred, Proverbs (I went through the whole plan daily).
The Results
In 2009 The Center for Bible Engagement found that statistically people that read their bible 4 times a week were:
- 228% more likely to share their faith with others
- 231% more likely to personally disciple someone
- 407% more likely to memorize scripture
They also saw a people were less likely to participate in these behaviors:
- Getting drunk = 57% lower odds
- Sex outside marriage = 68% lower odds
- Pornography = 61% lower odds
- Gambling = 74% lower odds
- Any of these habits = 57% lower odds
